In many last post, I was seriously considering <a href="https://autolah.blogspot.com/2023/04/to-repair-old-car-or-to-sell-it-and-buy.html" target="_blank">selling the old car</a>. </p><p>This is an update on my <a href="https://autolah.blogspot.com/2017/09/wira-upgrade-project-september-2017.html" target="_blank">Proton Wira project car</a>. For those who are wondering, it is still running fine - no problems at all. In fact, I use it as my daily runner. </p><p>However, as most of you car guys are aware, a project car is never finished. </p><p>The dilemma like always is whether I am spending too much on it. Or it might be better off just buy a new car or at least a newer used car.</p><p>Anyway, here are my upgrade plans for this year:</p><p>1. New central locking. The old one is showing signs of age. For example, when I press the unlock button, it works but the car door knob/ pin does not come up and I still have to use the keys.</p><p>2. New brakes for all wheels. They work fine but I can certainly feel the difference after I use our Preve.</p><p>3. New front turn signal lights (Left & Right). The bulbs are OK, just that the old ones are yellowing and chipped and look bad.</p><p>3. New paint job / or wrap. I am leaning towards the latter as it is cheaper and faster. I can see some rust on the front bonnet and left fender above the tyre.</p><p>I will try to do most of the jobs myself but will leave the more difficult ones to the experts.</p><p>Wish me luck. </p><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10575020.post-14743051278780353462023-04-13T04:20:00.002+08:002023-04-13T04:20:33.064+08:00To repair the old car or to sell it and buy a new one<p> My old Proton Wira was giving me some issues. The gears were no longer smooth and more serious, and the brake was not working correctly. Other than that, there were no issues. The car started immediately and ran smoothly. </p><p>So, I was in a dilemma - whether to get rid of the old car or repair it. I did some calculations and estimated around RM3000 for the repairs compared to much for a new car. Even if I did get a used car, there were bound to be some repairs.</p><p>In the end, I decided to go ahead with the repairs on our 21 year old Proton Wira.</p><p>Sent the car for service at the nearby Proton service centre last Tuesday and also to see what needs to be repaired. The workshop manager Ruby later called me and told me that there was a need to change a couple of parts and that it would not be cheap. I told her to go ahead. </p><p>In the end here is the total damage:</p><p>Oil Filter: RM13.06</p><p>Gasket plug oil drain: RM3:20</p><p>Clutch Kit: RM300 (This was the most expensive part)</p><p>Cyl. assy brake master pump: RM184.75</p><p>Cylinder assy rear brake wheel: RM116</p><p>Valve, brake fluid: RM114.71</p><p>Clutch bearing: RM80</p><p>Oil seal flywheel: RM95.05</p><p>Oil seal driveshaft: RM50</p><p>Clutch cable: RM80</p><p>Gear cable bush: RM65</p><p>Engine oil Mach 5 15W/40: RM85</p><p>Labour and service: RM727.20</p><p><br /></p><p>The grand total: RM1913.85 (including tax RM7.20)</p><p>It was definitely not cheap but much lower than I had expected. </p><p>They also replaced my driver-side mirror which I had bought myself for RM50.</p><p><br /></p><p>The car now feels amazing. The gears are now smooth and the clutch is really light. The brakes now feel much better. Really improves my confidence while driving. They said that the brake disc and pads are still OK but I want to change them to new ones as well. Maybe next month. </p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10575020.post-45691734464932389952021-10-12T17:56:00.000+08:002021-10-17T12:09:35.968+08:00Bad experience with a detailing shop<p> I have a confession - I have never taken my car to a detailing shop. Normally I will take my car to the local car wash and have it hand washed for a couple of ringgit. Normally around RM10 and a bit more extra if it is quite dirty or you want it waxed.</p><p>Anyway, I love watching all the YouTube videos where they take a dirty car and clean it until it is literally unrecognisable. </p><p>So last week I took my wife's car to the detailing shop near my house - found out that the 2nd cheapest option - deep clean with a thin protective coating would cost me RM 200. I decided to go with this option and if I was satisfied with this, I would go for the more expensive option.</p><p>They took several hours and it was nearly dark when I went to pick up the car. It looked clean and shiny then and I was quite happy. However, next morning I was really disappointed. There were dirty spots everywhere. The rims were not cleaned properly and they had not even bothered to wipe down the dashboard. </p><p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My local car wash with wax does a much better job and with the cost, I could have washed my car like 10 times. </p><p>A really bad experience. Wow! It has been a while since I last updated my blog. I apologise to my regular readers who have since drifted away - this is a personal blog and more of a hobby blog and it has been quite hectic since I moved back to Malaysia from the UK and had to focus on my job and family. However, I kind of miss blogging and will definitely be updating this blog more often with car industry news, reviews and my personal thoughts.<br />
<br />
Anyway, if you own a Proton Preve CFE 1.6 A (Turbo), you should be aware that they are having a product recall, though they are not officially calling it that. They are calling it a parts replacement.<br />
<br />
I actually had to book with my Proton workshop, Senaxis Sdn Bhd, 2 months in advance and had to leave the car the workshop for 2 days. I was a bit annoyed when I took leave and left the car for two days but learnt that did not do anything as the parts had not arrived. Finally got it done this week.<br />
<br />Here are the parts that replaced for free:<br />
<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Flywheel</li>
<li>CVT Damper</li>
<li>Crankshaft bolt</li>
<li>Bolt</li>
<li>CVT fluid </li>
<li>Adaptor starter B+ terminal </li>
</ol>
<div>
They also updated the ECU for free. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However, they charged me for oil filter, Auto transmission valve body (RM156.12) and Gasket oil pan (RM71.20) .</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div>
The front and rear Bracket Assembly Roll Mountings (I am translating directly from my bill), were also replaced because they were cracked. The workshop charged me RM51.86 and RM67.98 respectively.</div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They did the alignment for free but charged me RM40 for the labour.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The had hoped that it would reduce the car engine noise. However, there was a noticeable reduction in vibrations. </div>

MINI Malaysia recently introduced the New MINI 3 Door and the New MINI 5 Door. This are the first models to be introduced in Malaysia since the third generation MINI was introduced in 2014.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDTLNKf3NBoumtYN0QrYX2NJ7zBHlBpt1Gf3b5xo6GAaaNhBk2m0Uk6ibBILrJv_ONh2PGmJ9qEetXpSZixje7iNB8N54BE_8MezMm7ZoioyYsu8L-1e-HQaZObrPcgdvxtCUMg/s1600/9.+The+New+MINI+3+Door+%2526+The+New+MINI+5+Door.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1049" data-original-width="1400" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDTLNKf3NBoumtYN0QrYX2NJ7zBHlBpt1Gf3b5xo6GAaaNhBk2m0Uk6ibBILrJv_ONh2PGmJ9qEetXpSZixje7iNB8N54BE_8MezMm7ZoioyYsu8L-1e-HQaZObrPcgdvxtCUMg/s400/9.+The+New+MINI+3+Door+%2526+The+New+MINI+5+Door.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The new models feature emotive, signature design elements such as the new MINI Logo Projection, LED Headlamps and Union Jack Tail lamps with Day Time Running Lights (for the very first time) as well as new logo elements on its body to distinguish the car further from its previous iterations.<br />
The engines weight have an overall reduction of up to eight kilograms improving its fuel consumption radically and fully meeting the latest Euro 6c Standard. This includes the progressive use of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) on the engine cover.<br />
<br />
The Coasting experience which was previously only available via the GREEN mode is also now possible in the MID mode with The New MINI. The feature intuitively shifts the engine to idle when the foot is off the accelerator pedal when cruising.<br />
<br />
The front beams are powered by Bi-LED lights, and at a flick of the indicator will switch the LED daytime running lights to the LED indicators.<br />
<br />
MINI Malaysia also introduces the MINI Yours Customised Accessories for the first time ever in South East Asia, which allow retrofit components such as side scuttles, cockpit facia, LED Door Sills Finishers and LED Door Projector to be produced according to the customer’s personally designed specifications.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The classic MINI logo has also been refreshed for all models with subtle modification and a sharper contrast. The re-interpretation of the existing logo now features a two-dimensional "flat design", reflecting the new brand identity with its focus on the essentials – driving fun, distinctive design, premium quality and emotional appeal. Also, with the MINI Logo Projection, drivers are now greeted by the new logo beamed on the ground every time they step in and out of their MINI.<br />

The New MINI Cooper S 3 Door and the New MINI Cooper S 5 Door are the first MINIs in the family to be equipped with the 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission and an electronic gear shifter. The 7-Speed Dual Clutch Steptronic Sports Transmission consist of two sub-transmissions to ensure no delays and thus more comfort in shifting gears. With sub-transmission 1 aligned for gears 2, 4, 6, and the reverse, and sub-transmission 2 for gears 1, 3, 5, and 7, such optimum efficiency means the next gear will always have been pre-engaged on the other sub-transmission. The new transmission type is helped by the purely mechanical function of the torque converter. The expanded gears and bigger gear shift spacing also contribute to less fuel consumption and CO2 emission. Additionally, the newly designed electronic selector lever ensures that the gear always returns to its original position after changing between driving mode D, neutral position N, and reverse mode.<br />

Led by Matt LeBlanc, and driven by The Stig, the Track-Tor -a modified high-speed tractor reached a speed 87.2mph on the set of Top Gear on Wednesday, March 14th. <br />
<br />
Engineered at the Top Gear Agricultural Technology Centre, the ‘Track-tor’ is a 500-brake horsepower, Lamborghini-style orange-colored farming automotive Frankenstein powered by a 5.7 liter Chevy V8 engine and supported by 4-wheel brakes, adjustable air suspension and 54-inch tires. And in true Top Gear style, it’s also fitted with a push button start, a barometer and a Wellington boot and spade rack.<br />
<br />
According to Jack Brockbank, Official Guinness World Records Adjudicator: “To see The Stig hurtle past me in a tractor at 87mph was surreal, but hugely impressive. Equally as impressive is the engineering expertise of the Top Gear team that made this possible – the combination of their skills makes for brilliant record-breaking fun.”<br />

I guess this is something not uncommon with a number of Malaysians living from salary to salary. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Anyway she agreed to come to a workshop near our house in PJ on the weekend to find out the damage and she drove away. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
We thought it was settled. Next day the drivers' mum, a really rude lady, called up my wife and started shouting.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
She wanted us to come to their workshop in Segambut which is nearly one hours away. Later she only wanted to pay only RM150 without even getting an evaluation from the workshop, which her daughter agreed to do. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
She even accused my wife of threatening her darling baby daughter. Mind you, the lady who hit my wife's car is nearly 30 years old. My wife was <span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">shocked as the other driver WAS AT FAULT. </span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline; font-family: inherit;">In the conversation that followed, f</span><span style="font-family: inherit;">or no reason, she even mentioned that she was an accountant and drove a BMW. WTF has that got to do with the accident. She hung up but the daughter agreed to come on Saturday and settle.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">On Saturday, nobody turned up and she simply ignored my wife's texts.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The damage was not that bad but their attitude really made us angry. That left us with no choice but to lodge a report with the police. </span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
We went to the police station in Damansara Utama which then directed us to go to the Balai Polis, Jalan Penchala, PJ. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Apparently, we were not the only people who has faced a similar situation as there were so many people who agreed to settle but didn't. The police had some advice for us which I thought I should share with you guys.</div>
<div class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; display: inline; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">If you are ever in an accident:</span><br />
<ol>
<li><div class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Stop the car. </span></div>
</div>
</li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">Take pictures of the damage and the </span><b style="font-family: inherit;">number plate</b><span style="font-family: inherit;"> of the other vehicle. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">Then get contact details of the other driver.</span></li>
<li><div class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">And if the other party wants to settle. Observe the attitude of the person. If you feel uneasy - say that they don't have money or do not agree to accompany you to a workshop to get the damage evaluated - forget about settling. </span></div>
</div>
</li>
<li><div class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">
<div style="font-family: inherit; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Lodge a police report within 24 hours and </span></div>
</div>
</li>
<li><span style="font-family: inherit;">claim from their insurance, even though it may be some trouble.</span></li>
</ol>
</div>

I don't really agree as there are already a few offerings from other brands in this new niche in the luxury segment including the Porsche Cayenne, the Porsche Macan and Range Rover Evoque. <br />
<br />
Anyway, the Urus offers luxurious space for up to five occupants and a fantastic driving experience with six different driving modes + the EGO mode available via ‘Tamburo’ driving dynamics selector.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9HpVXOjGcafaKuPkVze5Gnptef6UyRCWnM18s3RWXgZeED0Xx6JZyZD2kI3x0V-lZeAGL7C3QcyWgqcGR_w5nr1bUvDV2GUDtKCxrvuR3GsBq3g4wZ28igH1yMLp814JOFptHSA/s1600/urus+1.JPEG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9HpVXOjGcafaKuPkVze5Gnptef6UyRCWnM18s3RWXgZeED0Xx6JZyZD2kI3x0V-lZeAGL7C3QcyWgqcGR_w5nr1bUvDV2GUDtKCxrvuR3GsBq3g4wZ28igH1yMLp814JOFptHSA/s400/urus+1.JPEG" width="400" height="298" data-original-width="512" data-original-height="382" /></a></div><br />
It is powered by a 4.0 liter V8 twin-turbo engine with 650 hp and 850 Nm of torque. The Urus can go from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed 305 km/h. The vehicle has a 4WD system with active torque vectoring and four-wheel steering.<br />
<br />
As for safety, it features carbon ceramic brakes, adaptive air suspension and active roll stabilization. <br />
<br />
The peaked mound of the bonnet is reminiscent of the Miura and Aventador, and accented by diagonal hood lines. Large air intakes sporting the hexagonal theme are linked by a low-level front spoiler. The front lights are sleek, slim and very sporty, set in a horizontal position and with LED headlights in the familiar Lamborghini Y shape.<br />
<br />
The Y-shaped front air intakes, also a feature of the LM002, are detailed with the Italian flag, emphasizing the origins of the model.<br />
<br />
With a low roofline and frameless windows, the Urus has a sharply-inclined windshield and strongly-angled rear windows with glass-on-glass replacing the C-pillar. The hexagonal wheel arches borrows deign details from the LM002 and Countachat, housing large 21" to 23" wheels. The rear diffuser is inspired by Lamborghini race cars, with integrated double round exhaust pipes.<br />
<br />
As for the interior, the driver and passengers are all afforded a low but extremely comfortable super sports car seat position. Oriented around the driver, the slim Y design of the dashboard, is inspired by the LM002 as well as by current Lamborghini super sports cars. The Lamborghini hexagonal theme echoes throughout the interior, in elements such as air vents and door handles, and even in items such as the cup holders and air bag modules. A multi-function, three-spoke steering wheel incorporates a vibration damper to enhance comfort in all driving conditions. Multifunction switches are intuitively located on the steering wheel to control the Lamborghini Infotainment System (LIS), including car set-up, media, telephone and navigation.<br />
<br />
The standard front DNA memory sport seats are fully electric, heated and 12-way adjustable. More luxurious, 18-way fully-electric front seats are available as an option, including features such as ventilation and massage. The rear bench seat comes as standard with a movable and folding seat back and ISOFIX fixings. The rear bench seat can be lowered to substantially extend the trunk space from 616 liters to 1.596 liters. <br />
<br />
A fully-digital TFT display shows the Urus' main information in an animated 3D representation and is customizable by the driver.<br />
<br />
Just in case you are wondering, the name Urus is derived from the Urus bulls also known as Aurochs. They are one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle.<br />

As I had mentioned in one of my past posts: <a href="http://autolah.blogspot.my/2017/09/review-of-fave-offer-lim-tayar-ss2.html" target="_blank">Review of Fave offer - Lim Tayar @ SS2</a>, I needed to change one of the tyres on my Wira. There was an offer on Continental tyres on Lazada and I did a search.<br />
<br />
I bought a Continental Tyre CC6 175/70/13 for RM 128.00 (discounted from RM160) from a seller called Tyre Hunter. I specifically selected the seller based in Semenyih as it is near my office. I was quite interested to try out Nitrogen gas for the tyres offered by other sellers. Unfortunately the workshop near my office did not offer Nitrogen gas.<br />
<br />
I soon received a Whatsapp message from a lady called Christine and we fixed a day for me to go to their workshop and have the tyre installed.<br />
<br />
The workshop is called WSS Auto Accessories & Tyres Sdn Bhd in Semenyih. Unlike other workshops, they have a air-conditioned waiting room. Unfortunately no coffee or even water but there was an old vintage arcade game to keep me occupied.<br />
<br />
Once there, I decided to get the wipers changed as well. There was a cheaper rubber version and a silicon version, which was slightly more expensive. I decided to go for the silicon wipers and the 17" cost me RM35 while the 20" one cost me RM40.<br />
<br />
Since I was already there I also decided to have the balancing and alignment done.<br />
The front alignment cost me RM25 while the balancing for all tyres cost RM40. I only realised later that the balancing was supposed to be free for the tyre I purchased.<br />
<br />
All together, it cost me RM121 with GST (6%).<br />
<br />
However, this is not the end of this story. A few days later on the weekend as I was washing my car, I suddenly realised that they had installed another brand tyre - Viking CityTech CT5, which only costs about RM88. I was quite annoyed. So I sent off a message to Christine. She profusely apologised and asked me to come over to get it changed to the correct tyres.<br />
<br />
So, next Monday, I again drive to the workshop from my office and had the tyres changed. It only took a couple of minutes. They did not do the balancing or alignment again and I did not insist as I had to get back to my office soon.<br />
<br />
I am not sure what happened and whether it was a honest mistake. But it should not have happened and left me with a bad impression of the workshop. </div>

Based on the ratings of various auto brands in Malaysia from the J. D. Power 2017 Malaysia Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) study, Isuzu and Toyota came out on top.<br />

Isuzu scored 5 stars (among the best) for overall satisfaction, sales initiation, dealer facility, salesperson and delivery timing. They scored 4 stars (better than most) for deal and delivery process. I have done a few minor upgrades to my old Wira since my last update (including the engine mounts as mentioned in my last post).<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>1. Roof moulding.</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The old roof moulding was cracked and you could see the metal inside, I tried to get this fixed at the nearly Proton workshop but when I went there, they did not have it in their stock. One of the guys went on to dissuade me saying that it would be very costly and that it is very difficult to attach and may fly off while driving, blah, blah, blah. I was quite annoyed the way sometimes mechanics talk to us - like we are fools.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, I went over to the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/protonwiramalaysia/" target="_blank">Proton Wira Malaysia page on Facebook </a> and found a seller. I contacted him via Whatsapp and transferred the money after getting a quote. I was pleasantly surprised when I received it the next day. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had no idea how it was attached and there were no videos on YouTube either. I guess I should have made a video. I gently pried the old moulding out checking for the clips and it came off quite easily.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There was a lot of junk underneath and I cleaned it up. As I mentioned before, taking it off was quite easy but fixing the new one presented a few challenges. The clips on the roof went in quite easily but the ones in the front by the windows simply would not go in. I guess this was what the Proton mechanic was talking about. I solved this by arranging the clips so that they would go into the original spaces and putting a bit of superglue. It has been a few months, and they have not come off.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<span style="text-align: left;"><b>2. Number plate holder.</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">My old number plate was partly cracked and the numbers were in different shades - older ones were yellow while the new ones were bright white. So I decided to change the whole thing. Bought a number plate frame older from Lazada for RM28. Slight different from the original as the length is less but is taller. It has the Proton logo and the words "Spirit of achievement". I got this done at a shop in Kelana Jaya.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><b>3. Seat Covers.</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">The car still has the original seats and you can see some wear and tear. I was initially planning to changes the seats to new sporty semi-bucket Recaro or Bride seats but they cost a bomb. Even the fake ones cost more than RM500. So I decided to go for the seat covers until I could afford to buy the seats. I found these nice looking covers on Lelong.com.my - black with red stitching. The are supposed to be semi-leather whatever that means. They cost me RM180 for both the front and back seats.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Putting them on were not as easy as I thought they would be. I also had to cut out holes to attach the headrests. They did look good when they were finally on but I realised that I would need to take the seats out and staple the covers to the seat underneath to prevent them from running around. however, I have not been able to get around to doing that. </span></div>

<br />
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are so many things I want to do but I have to decide which ones are a priority.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
1. I need to change one of the tyres but I am seriously considering upgrading the original 13" small steel tyres to 14" alloy rims. Some advised me to go for the 15" which will definitely look better however, I have read on various forums that they affect the power of the car and also affect the fuel consumption. Apparently 14" is the sweet spot.<br />
<br />
2. If I change the tyres, I may as well upgrade the brakes as well. Seriously considering ventilated front disc brakes. I asked the Proton workshop if I could change all the tyres and the brakes with the ones on the Iriz. I was hoping to hear them say that it might be possible but they told me that it would be quite difficult as the cars were quite different and it would be really expensive. I asked how much? The lady replied, more then a thousand.<br />
<br />
3. The car also seriously needs a complete paint job. I have touched up some of the scratches and they look OK from far but looks quite bad when you get close. I may also need to change the rear bumper as some fool banged them and left without saying anything. Now it has a crack in the middle. Asked the friendly paint guy near my house and he quoted RM2000 for the whole car.<br />
<br />
4. Other minor upgrades I have planned besides the big ones above include window tints (good quality and legal), minor upgrades to the engine including POD filters, iridium spark plugs, exhausts and maybe the ECU.<br />
<br />
However, I am also worried whether these upgrades would affect my car insurance. I am specially worried about the exhausts as I do not want to attract attention from the cops and possible car thieves. I have also read that changing the POD filters and exhausts do not make any significant difference to the power of the car apart from being more noisy. What do you think? Would love to hear the advise of other car mod lovers who have gone through the same process.</div>

Was going through some of the the discounts offered by Fave (known as Groupon previously) which I receive regularly via email. I was quite interested in the promotion offered by Lim Tayer. This company has numerous outlets in the Klang valley including two very near my house, one in SS2 nd another in Taman Sea, Petaling Jaya.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
According to the offer, I would get the following services:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
15-point check</div>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Battery</li>
<li>Brake fluid</li>
<li>Power steering fluid</li>
<li>Auto transmission fluid (ATF)</li>
<li>Wipers</li>
<li>Lights</li>
<li>Brakes</li>
<li>Tyre pressure (including spare tyre)</li>
<li>Tyre condition</li>
<li>Rims</li>
<li>Spark plug and air fliter (typo)</li>
<li>Coolant</li>
<li>All beltings</li>
<li>Air cond gas</li>
<li>Suspensions</li>
</ol>
Plus the following: </div>
<div>
Wheel alignment services<br />
Off wheel balancing<br />
Balancing weight + rim wash</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Customers also get:</div>
<div>
50% off for Valeo/AcDelco wipers (must be purchased on the spot).</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It sounded faboulous as my old Proton Wira was due for a service and I could find out if there were any isssues. I selected the SS2 outlet and ook up the offer. I only had to pay RM17.50 with extra discounts for this offer.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, I just got back after getting the so-called 15-point check plus extras. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The positives first:</div>
<div>
I found out that my one of my tyres needed to be replaced soon. However, I know that Lazada has great offers on Continental tyres and I plan to buy from them online.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also found out that needed to change my engine mounting. It was not that bad but I decided to go ahead and change them anyway. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is the breakdown of the charges:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wheel alignment + balancing + weight + RIM wash was RM23.59 + RM 1.42 (GST)</div>
<div>
Labour was RM30 + RM1.80 (GST).</div>
<div>
Front and rear engine mountings were RM50 each + RM 6 GST. </div>
<div>
The total was RM162.81 (with GST).</div>
<div>
Ended up paying a total of RM137.80 (after -RM25 discount).<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First of all, they <b>DID NOT</b> do a 15 point check. From the entire list, all they did was look at the tyres, a cursory look at the brakes and the engine mountings. So no check of the fluids, suspensions, belts, lights or even wipers. They did not even mention the wiper offer and I did not bother. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They also did not do a proper wheel alignment check. Hell, I did not even get my rims washed. </div>
<div>
However, I noticed that they did wash the tyres and rims of an Audi which got new tyres. Was this bad service due to the fact that my car is an old Proton Wira?<br />
<br />
I pointed out to the lady in charge that I was supposed to get a 15-point check. After consulting with the mechanics, she told me that they had checked everything.<br />
<br />
OK.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So my final verdict: <b>DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS OFFER ON FAVE. IT IS A SCAM. </b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
Really disappointed with Lim Tyres. Was my first experience with them and my last.</div>

This is the seventh generation in the G30 5 series and the version here in Malaysia is imported Completely built up (CBU), priced at <b>RM 398,800</b> (recommended OTR price without insurance).<br />

The 530i goes for about €47,450 and €50,000 for the four-wheel xDrive version in Germany. That's about RM224,725 and RM236,800 respectively (as of today). <br />
<br />
The same model costs about £40,120 in the UK - approx. RM224,205. <br />

Most people know that cars in Malaysia are expensive and blame it on the import duties imposed by the Malaysian Government on imported models in order to protect the local car industry. However, I am a bit curious how they came up with prices for Mercedes Benz cars imported into Malaysia as Completely Built Up (CBU) units.<br />

US: $52,150 (Approx. RM229,355). Considered the entry level E class in the US.</div>

Interestingly, the model is cheaper in both the US and the UK. It is the cheapest in the US, and most expensive in Malaysia among the four countries. Please let me know if the specs differ for the models sold in different counties other than the side in which the steering wheel is placed.</div>

<div>
In Malaysia, import duty = 30% for CBUS. Please note that this is on the factory price and not the showroom price.</div>
<div>
Excise duty (1,991cc) = 80%<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span></div>
<div>
Sales Tax = 10%</div>

The price seems a bit inflated even with all the taxes in Malaysia. </div>

However, what is surprising is that last year Mercedes-Benz Malaysia posted an <a href="http://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2017/01/12/mercedes-benz-hits-record-annual-sales-with-11779-units/" target="_blank">all-time record sales</a> of 11,779 units. While other auto car makers are suffering, they actually recorded an 9% increase in sales (10,845 units sold in 2015). In fact, Malaysia has the highest sales of luxury cars in ASEAN, much higher than either Thailand or Indonesia which has much larger populations.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
This is amazing when you consider that the per capita income in Malaysia was about RM36,000 in 2015. Compare that with the per capita income in the US which was about $30,240 (RM132,965) based on the US Census Bureau in 2015. This indicates that we cannot estimate the market size on overall population size or per capita incomes. It is very important to identify and examine your target segments. </div>
<div>
<br />
Note: Mercedes-Benz USA also recorded the highest annual volume in the Country's history at 380,461 units sold in 2015.</div>
